Public Relations Specialist application
Thank you for your interest in joining our team! Fanpup is run by a small but dedicated staff of volunteers. We think we're pretty decent folks to hang around with, and we hope you'll consider joining us.
: Public Relations Specialist
About the Position
We're looking for someone who has a passion for brand management and publicity while also possessing at least some bit of "geek identity." It is not crucial to this position that you be able to recite the names of every Super Mario Bros character or that you see every sci-fi movie as soon as it comes out, but we do hope that you're a fan of piece of geek pop culture. It is more important to us that you know (or are excited about learning) strategies for increasing our social media and web exposure, than it is that you've seen every episode of Doctor Who. The position will involve getting our original content noticed on larger websites and/or spread to larger audiences via social media as well as the occasional print publicity opportunity. The position will also interface with businesses for partnerships, sponsorships, and co-promotions.
5 hrs/wk (minimum) - 10 hrs/wk (awesome). You make your own schedule, contribute any time of the day or night that works best for you. Burn the midnight oil or squeeze in some editing on your lunch break. It is your call.
Volunteer (so no dollars, sorry), but lots of experience gained & cool people met.
Devise strategies for getting wider notice of the website's original content.
Develop short-term and long-term plans to increase traffic, engagement, and reach among our various social media outlets.
Build relationships with relevant businesses (comic shops, convention organizers, game sellers/designers, etc.) to facilitate co-promotions and collaborations.
Ensure that our promotional material is up-to-date and stocked (e.g. business cards, swag).
Improve the website's SEO (search engine optimization) using tactics that can be easily learned.
Stay in close contact (online) with the advisory board to ensure our growth is progressing in a way that aligns with the shared vision of Fanpup.
Become proficient in the use of: Weebly (site content editor), Trello, Hootsuite, and Google Drive.
Very strong skills as a writer and verbal communicator
High level of comfort with social media and common web-based tools
Demonstrated knowledge and/or experience with marketing and promotions (students currently studying in this field are welcome!)
Ability to consistently and reliably contribute to a team atmosphere with a positive attitude (and have fun)
You've made it this far. If you're still interested, why not apply now?
Please describe your past experience with marketing, promotions, or publicity. Any and all relevant experience should be mentioned, including non-professional experience such as volunteer positions or class projects.
Please let us know what you're a fan of (i.e. the geeky stuff you play, watch, read, create, etc).
Name some of the blogs, news sites, or social media sites that you follow in order to get your fuel. Please answer for both your marketing/PR inputs as well as your geeky/entertainment feed.
Please let us know about any relevant experience and skills you have for this position (that you haven't already mentioned).
How many hours per week can you consistently contribute?
Please insert any links to your personal websites or social media profiles that you feel may benefit your application (very optional).
Please upload two (2) samples of recent writing that you feel accurately reflects your writing ability. The subject matter of these submissions isn't really relevant; this is just so we can gauge your writing proficiency.
