Cosmo is the telepathic Head of Security on Knowhere; which also happens to be the headquarters for the Guardians of the Galaxy in the comics. Cosmo recently appeared in the recent movie for a few brief moments, but here’s to hoping he gets more screentime in the Marvel Cinematic Universe!
In an alternate universe, the mercenary Deadpool (also known as Wade Wilson), is actually a dog named Wilson who was tested on for a mascara that would give eternal youth. The Deadpool everyone knows and loves was given a mission to round up all of the alternate universe personas, and Dogpool was recruited for the Deadpool Corps.
Lucky was originally named Arrow, and was owned by some mafia baddies who got in a fight with Hawkeye. Due to Hawkeye being nice to Arrow earlier, the dog attacked his owners. In retaliation, the men beat Arrow and threw him into traffic. Hawkeye rescued Arrow and got him to a vet just in time, and adopted him after the surgeries.
While travelling back home to Winterfell, Lord Eddard “Ned” Stark and his men found a slain direwolf mother and six pups. Rather than kill the pups outright, Ned was persuaded they were an omen, and took them in to give to his children. Since then, the direwolves have grown and defended the Starks, some to their dying breath.
In the world of Pokemon the dog-like Growlithe are used as police dogs. Once given a Fire Stone, the Growlithe evolve into the larger Arcanine. This canine’s fire abilities make it a strong match against leaf-type Pokemon, but weak to water-types.
In looking to protect his daughter (Alyx) in a post-invasion Earth, Dr. Eli Vance builds a large robot that they call D0g. Since then, Alyx has been upgrading her guardian. Throughout the game, this hulking robot shows off its prowess by tossing trucks and taking on various baddies.
In the wild, these Pokemon fight within their pack to determine who will be the new leader. Despite their fighting, members of the pack will stay with those who are sick. Rumors in the Pokemon games say that once burned by a Houndoom’s fire breath, the pain won’t go away.
Urz and Eezo (Mass Effect)
These vicious and tough animals are known as Varren, which hunt and breed in packs on the Krogan homeworld of Tuchanka. On other planets, they quickly become dangerous pests. In-game, players can befriend Urz, a retired pit-fighter; and Eezo, an adopted Varren that has shocking, biotic abilities.
While living with inventor and explorer Charles Muntz, Dug receives a collar that can translate his thoughts (just like his other kennel-mates). In Pixar’s Up, it is during a “special mission” that Dug stumbl--SQUIRREL!
He might not look it, but Frank is an alien in disguise (and informant for the Men in Black). After a brief interaction in the first movie, Frank returns as a partner agent in the sequels. On top of dressing sharp, he has a sharp tongue, sharp wit, and a penchant for singing along to The Baha Men and Gloria Gaynor.
Raised by a certain Hogwarts Groundskeeper, Fluffy was used as one of the protections of the Philosopher’s Stone during Harry Potter’s first year. If Fluffy wins this competition, I would suggest not playing any flutes or harps in celebration, as he would fall asleep
Also known as the “Seed of Destruction” and “Hound of Resurrection,” Sammael is a demon summoned by Rasputin to create chaos and overpower anyone trying to stop his nefarious plans. Due to a spell cast by Rasputin, any time Sammael dies, it is reborn twice. So...we’ll see what that does to FanPup’s bracket if it is voted out...
First designed in the year 5000 by Professor Marius, the K-9 robots have become one of the most iconic companions to The Doctor in his adventures. They have definitely proved themselves loyal, brave, and resourceful. Although, some accounts say K-9 is a paradox, as Marius based the design off of remnants of a future version The Doctor and Sarah Jane Smith owned.
Ein is a super-intelligent dog, and possibly cutest member of the bounty hunter starship, Bebop. Although no one knows what was done to make him smarter, or seem to realize his awesome shōgi moves--we at FanPup recognize his genius (and are keeping an eye on his standings in the bracket).
The year 2062 might not be quite around the corner, but you can always watch The Jetsons to get your fix of the future. Astro is a talking dog that is there to try and calm down family man George when his tempers flare (or sometimes cause them to), and hang out with boy-genius Elroy. When not doing those, you might be able to find him chasing cats or running on a hover treadmill.
