One of the game’s big hooks is that in order to complete a good portion of the challenges, you must interact with strangers. This involves doing things like getting a piece of gum from a stranger, or getting a stranger to lift their arms up, all without telling them that it’s for a game you’re playing. This adds some extra layers of challenge to the game, such as working up the courage to talk to strangers and (depending on how loud your party is being) risking getting thrown out of the bar you’re playing in.
All-in-all I think it’s a fun game that works better with more than just a couple of people. One problem, however, is the amount of cards. The demo deck I received contained only 15 cards, which is a small amount to have for a party game. However, this seems like an easy fix, and the full game will probably have more cards than the demo deck.
SpeakEasy is a simple game with a degree of challenge that can vary widely from person to person. If you have no problem talking to strangers, then you’ll have a much easier time playing this game than your introverted friends. There is a little under a week left on their Kickstarter, so check them out to see if you’d be interested!
