Jimmy Kimmel Live debuted the trailer, that can now be found online, which shows us the first footage of perhaps the strangest characters yet to enter the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The official synopsis from Marvel’s website:
“An action-packed, epic space adventure, Marvel's "Guardians of the Galaxy" expands the Marvel Cinematic Universe into the cosmos, where brash adventurer Peter Quill finds himself the object of an unrelenting bounty hunt after stealing a mysterious orb coveted by Ronan, a powerful villain with ambitions that threaten the entire universe. To evade the ever-persistent Ronan, Quill is forced into an uneasy truce with a quartet of disparate misfits--Rocket, a gun-toting raccoon; Groot, a tree-like humanoid; the deadly and enigmatic Gamora; and the revenge-driven Drax the Destroyer. But when Quill discovers the true power of the orb and the menace it poses to the cosmos, he must do his best to rally his ragtag rivals for a last, desperate stand--with the galaxy's fate in the balance.”
Though initially published by Marvel in 1969, the film draws inspiration from a revamped 2008 version of the team, created by Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning, with art by Paul Pelletier.
The trailer sets up the zany tone, and somewhat-used-future aesthetic of the film. Although some fans may be disappointed to only glimpse Rocket Raccoon (Bradley Cooper) and Groot (Vin Diesel). Whether this indicates the marketing team is unsure of the appeal of a talking Raccoon and tree, or are just holding something back for the next trailer, remains to be seen.
For now, the trailer certainly has us intrigued for August 2014.
