Getting people there isn’t really the hard part though. How do you plan a nerdy holiday party that everyone will enjoy? We’re going to go ahead and assume you have the basics of party planning down (venue, guest list, invitations, etc.). If not, there are tons of event and party planning guides out there that break it all down into simple steps. But what about the details? What to serve, how to decorate, what games to play, etc.
We’ll walk you through it.
Games & Activities
Of course, some groups would rather watch something than play, and for those we offer The Walking Dead Season 5 Drinking Game. Re-watch the latest season and see how far you can get before you, too, start shambling mindlessly around, looking for something to eat. Or if zombies aren’t your thing, you could marathon the first two Hobbit movies before going out for a field trip to catch The Battle of the Five Armies.
One of our personal favorites at Fanpup is White Elephant. For those who don’t know, everyone brings a wrapped gift of roughly the same value. The gifts all go in a pile and everyone who brought one draws a number out of a hat. The person who drew number one gets to choose a gift to unwrap, and then the next person, and so on. However, if someone likes the gift that a person before them chose, they can choose to steal that gift rather than pick a new one. The person whose gift was stolen gets to either pick a new gift, or they can steal one from someone else (other than the person who just stole theirs). Gifts can only be stolen up to three times before they are “locked” and can’t be stolen again (otherwise it might never end). Once everyone has chosen a gift, the person who went first gets another opportunity to steal. It can either end there (with the person stolen from receiving the first person’s gift in exchange), or the person whose gift they stole can steal, and so on until either every gift is locked, or everyone is happy with what they have.
