This is also a great opportunity for the more artistically inclined to make something all your own. Paper mache-ing old comic pages to flats and heels works like a charm, and canvas shoes can be painted with fabric paint or acrylics. Don’t sweat it if you can’t find what you want online, just make it yourself instead!
No matter which route you go, skirts and dresses are an excellent way to show off your nerdy side. Keep in mind that you might want to keep the rest of the outfit relatively simple, or you’ll run the risk of your dress being out-shined by your Portal earrings, Star Wars leggings, and Fullmetal Alchemist bag. One option is to stick with solid-color accessories that don’t detract from your great pattern.
Tights & Socks
Tights and leggings, on the other hand, can run the gambit from subtle to bold. They can be an easy way to let out your inner Earth Alliance soldier, and they have been quite easy to find online lately. These are also excellent for keeping warm in the winter, when nerdy apparel might sometimes get lost among layers of scarves, gloves, and coats. Pull on your Han Solo leggings and a Tom Baker scarf and you’ll be toasty without sacrificing your nerdy pride.
Hair Accessories & Hats
If you’re planning on showing off your hairstyle, there are still plenty of options, many of which can easily be made yourself. One particularly versatile option is the bow. If you can make or get your hands on some bows made of nerdy fabric, you can attach them to bobby pins, hair ties, clips, and headbands, and include them in nearly any hairstyle.
ties & Bowties
Remember, ties and bowties don’t just have to be formal, or exclusively for the guys. They can also be worn more casually by swapping out your suit for some jeans and a blazer, or try a bowtie with a tucked in button-up and cords.
Jewelry & Watches
Watches are great because they are also practical. I know a lot of us rely on cellphones to tell the time, but what happens when your phone dies, or you leave it at home? Plus, watches can give you style points if you know how to rock them.
Belts can also be used to cinch a dress in at the waist, or to make an otherwise shapeless cardigan more flattering. Or you could velcro some pouches to yours and make a utility belt Batgirl would be jealous of. Your call.
Bags & Wallets
Wallets are bit more subtle than bags, but sometimes you can’t (or don’t want to) tote one around all day. There are a lot of great nerdy wallets available, or you could make one out of Batman duct tape. There are also a lot of combo wallet/phone cases which have spaces for money and cards, if you prefer to keep everything all in one place.
